Shells & Seaglass from New Brunswick

Paul and I are members of the Grand Strand Shell Club here in Myrtle Beach.  Each year in February, the Club holds an auction to raise money for the Club and the members bring along items to auction off among themselves.  We decided to bring some shells and seaglass from our area of New Brunswick.  I wasn't sure if anyone would be interested in bidding on these items but I took a chance.  Well, surprising to us, the three baskets of shells and the four small bottles of seaglass raised more than $25.

Not that Paul and I need an excuse to go beachcombing, but we will now have to go looking for more treasures to bring along for next year.

Come on folks, do I hear a higher bid?

Paul and I have been "snowbird" members of the Grand Strand Shell Club for four years now, and we have enjoyed the shell trips.  It's a great way to get to know the area and meet the local people.

A Day with our Friends...

Yesterday was the first day of our adventures with our visiting friends.  We agreed to meet them at their motel at 7:30 a.m., yes that is early, and take them to our favourite restaurant, The Atlantic Host, for breakfast. Then from there start our day of exploring.
This is what 7:30 a.m. looked like in our back yard.
Thought I would capture it with a photo as I am not
often up this early - but it was worth it to spend time with special friends.

After enjoying a great breakfast, we all headed downshore to do some seaglass hunting.  After meeting with our local "Seaglass Queen" the evening before, everyone was excited to hit the beach...

Here are serious treasure hunters, Irm and Bill.
Helen and I are busy looking for a great find.
Irm checking out the driftwood on the beach
More looking...
Still more looking...
I found a rusty horseshoe on the beach that I was hoping would
bring me good luck to find a special treasure.  I had nice finds but
no rare ones.  Maybe another day.
It looks as if Don may have found something interesting
Irm's smiling face must mean that she has lots of nice
treasures in her tote bag.
I was happy to gift Irm with my seaglass finds.
They may become part of one of her wonderful crafts some day.
Now doesn't this look like a group of happy people holding
their treasures from beachcombing.  Bill found a prize RED one.

Time to head home from the beach
Helen and Bill don't seem to want to leave the beach.
One last treasure....I understand!
It was a special time at the beach with our friends.
Paul and I were so happy that everyone enjoyed the adventure
and found something "special" to take home.
So what does one do after a couple of hours of beachcoming?
Eat ice cream for lunch...

Thank you Don for the treat.

A Visit from our Friends

Our friends from South Carolina, Irm and Don, and our new friends from Kansas, Helen and Bill, arrived here in Beresford yesterday for their first tour of the Maritimes.  We treated them to a meal of lobster rolls and Canadian wine at our house then they were anxious to meet our local "Seaglass Queen", Sonia Turner.  Sonia was very kind to give us a detailed presentation on her local seaglass collection from the Bay of Chaleur.

LtoR: Helen, Bill, Sonia, Don, Paul & Irm admiring some of
Sonia seaglass collection.

Sonia sharing on of her many funny beach stories.
This was probably the story of one of the many "soles" she saved
on the beach (shoe soles, that is).

Our friends also toured Sonia's La Garbou
(Garage Boutique - previous posting) and found some keepsakes to
take home to South Carolina and Kansas.

It was a very entertaining evening.  Thank you Sonia.

Downshore Hunting Seaglass with Tashia

One of our favourite places to be
Tashia and Paul discussing a seaglass find
Tashia was walking the high tide line looking for treasures
Paul may have found something!
My two favourite beachcombers
Someone had a bonfire set up on the high tide line
It's a weekend thing to do here in this area
Dad and his little girl on the beach
They are still looking for treasures
Tashia has a find!  It was a nice blue one with lettering.
They just can't seem to get enough.
I understand though as it is such a fun thing to do

As we would say in Newfoundland, it was a large day.
