Murrells Inlet, SC

During Elaine's visit we spent a little time enjoying the boardwalk at Murrells Inlet.  It's a great place to bird watch, especially if you like pelicans and seagulls.

This is Pelican Island located in the marsh area at Murrells Inlet.

Along the marsh area, there are many oyster shell beds.

Now here are my birding buddies.  Elaine with her camera trying to snap a "WOW" photo of the pelicans and Paul with his binoculars having a closer look.

Friendship and fun.....

An Evening at Hannah Banana's

Last evening Paul and I took Elaine to our favourite funky place here in the area, Hannah Banana's Sunshine Cabana for burgers, beer and blues music.  Our condo neighbours and our Newfoundland friends also joined in on our great evening.

Yes, great burgers and Yuengling beer....

Papa Duke was playing some good blues music for us.

We also enjoyed a wonderful sunset to top off the evening.

Our Friend's Visit

Elaine arrived in Surfside Beach from Ontario on Wednesday.  We are "old" school friends from way back.

We checked out the beach first before getting settled in.  Important things first!

On Thursday we enjoyed a warm day and touring Brookgreen Gardens.  We are taking a little rest on the bench near the rice fields.

Today was warm but very windy, but we took a walk on Surfside Beach.  Elaine and I enjoyed taking a few photos, including a self portrait.

Lots of fresh air on the beach today.

The afternoon was spent at the outlet mall......

The Big "60"

On 17 February, Paul turned the big "60". As Barry Manilow would sing, "Looks Like We Made It..."

Paul started his big day with a tasty breakfast out at his favourite breakfast restaurant, Prince Creek Diner, with his favorite item - the golfer's special (french toast, sausage patties, eggs, potatoes and lots of coffee).  Then it was back to the beach so he could enjoy reading the local newspaper on our deck, while enjoying the sun.  This is where Paul is most content. (I was busy in the kitchen preparing food for the party.)

Paul loves to watch the dolphins and he was happy that they showed up to entertain for his birthday. (Don't ask me how I managed this show - pure luck for sure!).  Unfortunately the dolphins did not cooperate for a photo.

Well, at 4 p.m. friends started to arrive to help Paul celebrate.  He received cards, candy, golf balls, beer and movie passes.  There were also phone calls during the day from family and friends.

I had bought a game of Pin the Tail on the Donkey but we never got around to playing.

We enjoyed finger foods, snack and then a bowl of homemade chili.

Of course there was birthday cake and of course it was chocolate with lots of icing!

We would like to thank our family and friends for making the day special and we wish for many, many more birthdays together at the beach.

To My Guy

Happy Valentine's Day

- a guy who makes the best egg sandwiches, ever

- a guy who shoveled more than 50 cms of snow after our vacation in Mexico, but wished he had retired two months earlier!

- a guy who helps peel the veggies for our Christmas Dinners
- a guy who helps with chores around the house

- a guy who loves a cool beer, or two, in a warm climate
- a guy who loves to walk a beach with me
- a guy who loves my cooking, most times...

- a guy who loves to hunt for sea glass with me

- a guy who loves to travel (on the road again to somewhere)

 - a guy who loves to be a snowbird in South Carolina with me

 - a guy who loves this recliner,
which is now in his man cave, and well used.

Happy Valentine's Day to my guy.  Love you....
