Spring is Here.....

Even though we still have some snow on the ground, I think Spring is finally here in Northern New Brunswick.

This morning I saw little green shoots of my spring bulbs poking through the soil in my flower gardens. Then while we were cooking dinner, we spotted several birds in our back yard which we watched through our door in the kitchen.

First we spotted a Downy Woodpecker pecking away at our willow trees and eating seeds from our feeder. They are such a pretty bird.

Then we spotted a Common Grackle (we think) in a nearby tree. This was the first time that we've seen this bird in our yard. We used our newly purchased National Geographic Field Guide to the Birds of North America to try and identify this bird.

Of course it wouldn't be Spring without the Robin. Last year we had a nest under our back deck but I have not yet checked this year.
