Mahone Bay, Nova Scotia



The town is known for a history of wooden boat building, the main industry in its earlier years. 

 

The view across the harbour is of the three prominent churches: St James' Anglican; St. John's Evangelical Lutheran; and Trinity United, which has become an iconic image of Nova Scotia.  Mahone Bay has a number of upscale shops and restaurants which are designed to appeal to the tourist industry.

On our drive from Halifax to Chester Basin, these are some of the sights we enjoyed on our coastal drive on the Bluenose Coast.

Near Chester we found this interesting stonework (wall and the sheep) in the garden of a local artist.  The tree in the background is made of driftwood.

It's been 15 years since Swissair Flight 111 crashed into the Atlantic Ocean off

Nova Scotia, killing all people on board.  On September 2, 1998, Nova Scotians

near the coast felt their homes tremble as the McDonnell Douglas MD-11 plane

bound for Geneva, Switzerland crashed into the water a few kilometers off the

shore of Peggy's Cove, which is just across the water from the South Shore.



We visited this Monument showing the names (229) of all those who died.

Don't let looks deceive you.  They serve a wonderful chowder and delicious fish cakes. The Blueberry Grunt dessert was "wow"!  We will definitely dine here again.

Southern Shore, Nova Scotia

 

 

Paul and I recently took a week long trip along the southern shore of Nova Scotia (from Halifax to Digby Neck).  Over the next week or so, I will be posting photos of our adventures.



 

More of Portsmouth, New Hampshire



One of the interesting points of Portsmouth for Paul and I was the unique architecture of the houses in the downtown area.  We enjoyed taking a leisurely stroll about, and taking photos of some of those houses.

 

We will surely return to this area and explore a little more.



 

 

Portsmouth, New Hampshire

On our return to Canada in April, Paul and I spent a couple of days in the Portsmouth New Hampshire area.  It was such a lovely area and we enjoyed exploring a little of the waterfront area of Portsmouth.

While browsing in The Gay Dolphin Gift Shop in Myrtle Beach, I saw this novelty sign that caught my eye and made me ponder. 

- What does this mean? 

- What do I want on my ship?

- Has my ship already come in?

I will think a little longer, before I answer my questions.





 

Last Day of 2013



Our New Year's Eve this year was a nice, simple evening.  We started off our celebrations with dinner at the Olive Garden Restaurant in Myrtle Beach with our friends, Maddie and Bill.  Then we went to Broadway at the Beach to enjoy the fireworks display and take a stroll about to watch the sights and sounds.

 

Paul and I concluded our evening enjoying more fireworks from Myrtle Beach and Garden City out on our condo beach steps.  We toasted in 2014 with a nice drink of Grand Marnier and sealed it with a kiss (blush)....
